Feminist Design of FemTech

Marie Louise Juul Søndergaard, Ph.D. Independent researcher and designer

Experio Lab is inviting to the Experio Seminars. Once a month we’ll invite interesting researchers to talk about service design, service logic and user-driven services in public sector.

FemTech refers to ‘female technologies’ and more specifically to technologies and services designed to support sexual, reproductive and menstrual health. There is a lack of research and funding for advancing women’s health, and the booming industry of FemTech is shifting the traditional ways people are caring for reproductive bodies. While many of these technologies successfully improve people’s intimate health, they also follow certain narratives and norms, such as typically being designed for individual users with normative bodies. Design practice can be used to challenge and imagine FemTech otherwise, ultimately bringing more diversity and innovation to who, how and where people can access and practice reproductive care. In this seminar, I will present a number of design research projects related to menstrual and sexual health, and from these derive feminist strategies for designing FemTech that foreground values of embodiment, community and ecology.

The seminar will be held in english.

March 21st 13:30 – 14:45 CET on Zoom

The seminar is free of charge and open for everyone.
