Experio Reflections #2

Whisking a Policy Mayonnaise: A Transdisciplinary Team Designing for Policy

Most people love mayonnaise. Many consider it the ultimate sauce, and with good reason. Mayonnaise is not challenging—in taste, texture, or appearance—yet it is by no means bland. It has a distinct character that allows it to work with almost any food—from a silver-plated seafood platter to fries on a paper plate. It simply goes down well across the board.

Our new Reflections piece takes its starting point in a case study of our collaboration with the national Governmental Commission on Healthcare Responsibility, illustrating how co-creation, scenario building, and visual facilitation can help make complex systemic issues more comprehensible — and contribute to the creation of new knowledge.

We also discuss how systemic design and political science can be combined in policy development. The text shares experiences from an interdisciplinary approach where legal and political science expertise is merged with the generative methods of design to create stable policy emulsions — policies that are both grounded in reality and useful in practice.

So lately, at Experio Lab, we’ve started to think of our version of design for policy as a mayonnaise. This is not because we see ourselves as the ultimate sauce or the perfect side. Nor because we always please everyone. It’s about the craft itself—how to make the perfect mayonnaise.

The seminar will be held in english.

November 28th 13:30 – 15:00 CET on Zoom

The seminar is free of charge and open for everyone.
